Just Press Record App Reviews

This is an awesoem app that I first heard about and downloaded on my iPhone/ Apple Watch and imediatly fell in love with, for it’s simplicity and ease of use. So I decided to support them on the Mac too because they’re worth it! Nice to have the iCloud sync so you can get your recordings on every device too.

There are lots of complicated ways to get audio into your mac, some to get it into your phone, and a few to do the same with your watch. Just Press Record does all of these with one touch, and makes the resulting files available through all your devices, with flawless iCloud Drive integration. It’s about time!

This is the review I left after using the iPhone/Watch companion app: it explains why I bought the Mac app. — This app is unbeatable when you need to take a quick note, be it your next dentist appointment (July 12, 2017 10am) or to get the voice of a contact giving you an address and a phone number. You think of something while falling asleep or in the bathroom: JUST PRESS RECORD !! It’s even faster with my watch !! If my phone is out of reach, the app works remotely on my watch (and will transfert the recordings on my phone when it comes in reach). It works flawlessly with iCloud (it offers 5G of free storage). At least, an app that does something simple, does it well and nothing more (I don’t need an editing studio on my phone/watch). At less than 5$, this app is a steal (so I bought the Mac app to support the developer). Would love to have a badge indicating the number of recordings.

I’m a musician who has wasted more money on apps used to jot down inspirational song ideas. There was always a problem with uniformity across all devices. And when I wanted to get the recordings from my Mac, it created another time-wasting conundrum. No other app developer gave me the option of a Mac based app that syncs to my other devices. So well thought out in its simplicity. Truly an elegant solution! With the Mac app I am able to add all my old recordings made with numerous other worthless apps. You simply open the cloud folder that Just Press Record creates and add folders which contain your archived recordings. The audio files can also be in different formats. WAV and MP3 formats work just fine. I haven’t tested others. It’s sad that people gave this app a low rating because they did not read that this is a cloud-based app. That is hardly an issue because it’s what makes this thing work on my phone, pad and Mac by creating one common place for files recorded on any of your devices. Brilliant. Wish list: Ability to sort recording lists on the app by name (up or down). As it is, recordings are sorted by date (most recent) only. It would be nice to have the option to sort by date oldest to newest.

I like I can play the voice recording from icloud, but why after it finishes playing the voice recording does music start playing in iTunes? This is highly annoying.

In theory this app seems useful, we all have these ideas, reminders etc. that we like to record. But his app does not even play back it’s own recordings! How absurd is that? I get an error message stating that Just Press Cannot open recordings “Apple MPEG-4 format”. That is the format that this app records in. There are no options to choose any other format. And when I went to their website to get tech support, there is no support page and no way to ask them questions. It does store the recordings on iCloud and you can access them from their iOS app, for which they charge extra. The developer needs to test the apps before putting them up for sale, these guys need to get their act together.

This app is the perfect app for recording podcasts. For the person who asked why iTunes plays after: iTunes is what you played the audio file in, so when that file is done, itunes will look for the next file to play. This is not an issue with Just Press Record. For the person who asked about Playing recordings: It would be especially useful to have a guest use remotely due to its ease of use combined with its visual feedback. Ive looked at a small number of apps like this on the app store, and this is the only one that gets it all right. - It displays the name of the mic during recordig - useful for catching "built in mic" when what you wanted was "USB ____" - There is a small meter to show how loud you are during recording - useful for confirming your mic isnt on mute. - During recording, it counts the time and spins a graphic - useful for actually knowing you are recording. - During recording the menu bar icon turns from black to red - It can save to either compressed or uncompressed audio - You can specify the default save location (ie such as dropbox) - Its super easy to find your files (there is a Recordings > button that opens finder to the folder where your recordings are) - There is no pause, only start and stop, and thats a good thing which Ill explain later... These really are the core things you want if youre recording a podcast. Based on the prices of other quick record tools. I think this tool fits the sweet spot: it has all the functionality you want/need, is still simple to operate (or tell someone else how to operate) and at $5 doesnt break the bank. By comparison, heres what I found from the competition I tried: - Most did not show what mic was being used. - Many did not have the option to save in lossless. - Almost all did not show the volume level as I was recording. - Several had minimal feedback that the program was actually recording. - One had nagware telling you what other products the company made. Ok hopefully the comparison helps in your decision process! I said Id explain my thoughts on why you dont want pause in a recording app (at least for podcasting) Often in podcasting, youd have each host of the show record locally. if there are 3 hosts, thats 3 sepearate recordings. Someone will mix these together so it sounds like all 3 were in the same studio, when in reality they might have been in different locations, talking over something like skype. Mixing 3 audio files together isnt bad if the files are all the same length. Not having pause helps with that- Lots and lots. I cant tell you how much of a pain it would be to mix 3 audio files if one was 15 minutes shorter than the others - it can be done, but your production costs/time just doubled, maybe trippled. One more good reason not to have Pause: Its one less mistake a person can make "Oh I thought I was recording, but I had it on pause still" Nope, eliminate the option, and eliminate that mistake. Ive not talked with the developer, but I feel like this one gets it and understands whats needed in an app like this. 5 Stars Update 10-13-2015 I emailed the developers about a bug I found - if you set a custom location for your recordings, it doesnt seem to save that correctly, and the next time you use the app, it will not record until you go into settings and re-pick your recording location. Update 11-7-2015 - the issue I reported still isnt fixed. I will update the review once this issue is resolved, in the mean time I have lowered my rating to 2 stars.

Great Idea, but...

Doesn’t work with USB microphones. Too bad.

In all honesty, this should only cost about $1, but it gets the job done. Records quickly in lossless format, saves to a specific folder, can choose whatever input I would like.

I’ve spent the past week trying to find a program that will allow me to record from my phone or computer (I wanted to be able to do it from both) and save it easily into iTunes so I can study vocab for a licensing exam. I specifically wanted to be able to create a playlist, hit “play” and have it shuffle through the list so I can listen while I drive. I’ve tried several and so far this is the closest fit. So yay for that! I recorded my terms, found a way to get them into iTunes, and have saved it to my phone. I am very happy about that. The cons: It crashed on me once after nearly 5 minutes of recording, which I was pretty frustrated with. I know that was a complaint with older versions. Also, if I go to playback the track immediately after recording, there’s a box that appears. If I close out the box before the track is over, the track keeps going and the only way to get it to stop is to close out the app altogether. If you’re pulling your hair out trying to find something quicker to access than GarageBand for simple recordings but works a little better than the Voice Memo app on your iPhone (I couldn’t get that to work the way I needed it to), this is a good one.

Even from accross the room this could record a meeting from my iMac. Then I could immediatly play it back on my phone and also email it to the participants. The fact that I have recordings everywhere is great. Awesome app, works every time.
